Dockyard Models has been established to support model boating "From the cradle to the watery grave,... and back again".

 

Hi, I'm Martin, the proprietor, and here's what Dockyard Models is about.

 

Dockyard Models is built on the desire to keep a generations old tradition, and pleasure for many, in existence. Against a background of virtual pastimes, we see a hands-on hobby declining . The influencing factor of pandemic has resulted in the disappearance of several well known giants in manufacturing, as well as the High Street presence itself. However, the Phoenix of this all is the resurrection of a cottage industry and its wider array of items.

 

This is where we stepped in. 3D printing home designed, bespoke  fittings and figures for a reputable local specialist shop that was unable to source them, we were able to fulfil the need of local customers. The reputation of  Highly detailed, quality parts at low cost soon spread by word-of-mouth and as Dockyard Models now supply across England.

Now to introduce a new twist in the tale. As the only dedicated model boat shop in England, The Dockyard Model Shop, has now closed its doors. My wife, Carol, and I have decided to take this opportunity and continue the business as an on-line presence. We still want to offer the same personal experience that was enjoyed by many previous customers, but in a modern, sustainable setting.

 

On a personal note;    Despite being a recently established business, my model boating history goes back about thirty years, having built models that were then displayed in the media. I have been secretary to a popular local model club and more recently, manufacturing fittings of some "museum standard" models, made by other builders. In my early years, I have a toolmaking and tool design background, which I still enjoy and utilise to this day. More recently, I have now retired from my previous career, which means that I can now dedicate my time to Dockyard Models and its many customers.

I get tremendous satisfaction from supporting and nurturing others to see their dreams fulfilled. There is nothing like the proud photos taken by someone who has reached, and exceeded their personal expectations.
